Redundant data centers are necessary in cases where the recovery time of the failed primary cents higher than the permissible downtime enterprise information system. The decision to create backup data center is based on risk analysis, which show the extent of possible losses caused by the failure of information system.
Backup data center to duplicate only the most critical functions of the ground, in the absence of which the activities of the enterprise will be impossible, so it is not the exact copy. For this purpose, the following tasks should be considered:
- Availability of relevant data copies, allowing a failure on the primary data center to continue operation of an information system on the reserved center.
- Translation of information services at the backup data centers computing resources.
Giving the role of information systems in the implementation of business processes, to perform the first task copies data in data centers must be transmitted in real time. For this purpose between the primary and backup data center requires a high communication channels and the application of technologies of replication and backup.
The modern approach to creating high-availability computing systems involves deployment of storage area networks (SAN – Storage Area Network), which provides the required level of performance of communication channels and methods of replication and redundancy. A storage area network deployed on the primary and backup sites, can provide redundancy of data in real time and thus ensure the availability of relevant copies of corporate data to a backup site.
